appointment awarded to
Sebastiãn F. Sãnchez Sãnchez
The Euro3D Research Training Network
The Euro3D Research Training
Network (RTN) is an initiative of 11 European institutes to promote the
emerging observing technique of Integral Field Spectroscopy and make it
a versatile common user tool in the astrophysical community. Starting July
2002, the RTN will combine an extensive training programme for 10 postdocs
with a broad research programme and with the development of state-of-the-art
data analysis software. A fundamental aspect of the RTN is a strong collaborative
approach, involving exchange visits between the 11 partner institutes
in 6 countries, workshops, a Winter School, and other coordinated training
activities. The RTN is funded by the European Commission within the
5th Framework Programme. It is coordinated by the
Astrophysikalisches
Institut Potsdam, Germany (AIP).
Job Details
A postdoc position will be available at AIP from July 2002 for a 2.5 years appointment. The job will involve roughly 40% research, 40% software development, and for the remaining fraction the participation in collective training activities of the RTN. The salary will be according to the German BAT IIa.
The AIP team has a particular interest in the development of 3D crowded field spectroscopy, and of PSF fitting techniques for 3D spectroscopy. Applications include background-limited faint object spectroscopy, e.g. resolved stars, planetary nebulae, and H II regions in nearby galaxies; high-z galaxies; and QSOs/QSO host galaxies. Applicants are expected to express their interest to participate in one of these areas or a similar topic which would benefit from these techniques.
According to the rules of the EC RTN programme,
the post is open to nationals of another European Union country, or Associated
State, other than Germany. Applicants must be under thirty-five years of
age and must not have carried out their normal activities in Germany for
more than 12 of the 24 months prior to his/her appointment.
Location
The AIP is located in the park area of Potsdam Babelsberg on a campus
which formerly belonged to the castle Schloß Babelsberg. The institute
is easily reached with public transportation both from Potsdam as well
as from the neighbouring city of Berlin.
