Post-doctoral position in Astrophysics at
Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille
The Euro3D Research
Training Network of the European Community is dedicated to the promotion
and development of Integral Field Spectroscopy in Europe through
the recruitment and training of post-doctoral fellow in the participating
institutes.
In this framework, the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de
Marseille will host one of these fellowship.
The successful candidate will be part of the 'Observational
Cosmology' team of the institute. The position is for two years and
can be opened as soon as September 2002.
The main research axes developped in the team are :
-
Galaxy formation and evolution
-
Large Scale Structure formation and evolution
-
Clusters and groups of galaxies
-
Cosmological parameters determination
The team is leading the VIRMOS
project, a powerful multi-object and Integral Field spectrograph that is
currently being installed on the ESO Very
Large Telescope. The VIRMOS consortium, under the team responsability,
is conducting the VLT-VIRMOS Deep Survey, based on 120 night of Virmos
Time, who will produce spectra for about 150,000 galaxies, and photometric
data on more than 3 million objects.
The team is also participating in the NGST and SNAP
projects, both integrating an IFS.
