New building timeline

The office furniture and chairs for the conference room are delivered and assembled. The seating areas are ready for future stimulating scientific discussions.

The interior painting has been completed, some remaining work still needs to be done.

The conference room of the Kirch building can already be used for the first meetings and conferences.

The name for the new building has now been decided: It will be named after the female astronomer Maria Margaretha Kirch, who was the first women to discover a comet in 1702 and worked at the Berlin Observatory as the wife of the first director Gottfried Kirch.

Work on the outdoor facilities is already in full swing.

Viewed from the street "An der Sternwarte", the new building looks as good as finished.

Only 7 months after the laying of the foundation stone, the main body of the planned extension building is already complete. To mark the occasion, the institute celebrated with a topping out ceremony.

On 18 January, a drone flew over the construction site, the resulting film can be viewed here.

The foundation slab has been cast for the most part and the first walls of the building are already in place. Many guests celebrate the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone.

The containers of the construction management were delivered and set up.

Clearing work and tree transplanting took place in preparation for the new building.
