Offer 1: Girls’ Day/Future Day Brandenburg at AIP

How many planets are exist? How do we know that galaxies move? How far can a telescope look into the universe? On April 3, 2025, girls will once again have the opportunity to look into the work of an astrophysicist at the Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics (AIP) as part of Girls’ Day/Future Day Brandenburg. Girls between the age of 11 and 16 who are interested in the subjects of physics, mathematics or computer science will get to know the AIP campus from 9 am to 1 pm, visit our telescopes and learn more about the importance of spectral analysis for astronomy.

What can you expect?

  • Get to know an astrophysics institute, visit our telescopes and our laboratories.
  • Discover Time: see our galaxy in virtual reality.
  • Take the opportunity to meet AIP scientists and ask your questions.
  • Test your knowledge in an astro quiz

The registration form for Girls' Day will be available on the organizer's website in the next few days.

Offer 2: Electronics laboratory in astrophysics (from 8th class onwards)

How electronics and the stars match each other? What does an electronic engineer actually do at a research institute for astrophysics? The Zukunftstag Brandenburg gives you the chance to become part of our electronics laboratory for a day. You'll be given a small project to work on under supervision and will practice handling a soldering iron. In addition, you will get insights into the apprenticeship as an electronics technician for devices and systems at the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP).

Unfortunately, we can only invite a small number of participants because there are only a few places available. That's why we want to know from you: What fascinates you about electronics?

Please send us an e-mail to: presse@aip.de

This is what you can expect!

  • Visit the electronics lab and get hands-on experience
  • Get to know our institute and visit the telescopes
  • Questions and answers about the profession and apprenticeship at the AIP
The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) is dedicated to astrophysical questions ranging from the study of our sun to the evolution of the cosmos. The key areas of research focus on stellar, solar and exoplanetary physics as well as extragalactic astrophysics. A considerable part of the institute's efforts aims at the development of research technology in the fields of spectroscopy, robotic telescopes, and e-science. The AIP is the successor of the Berlin Observatory founded in 1700 and of the Astrophysical Observatory of Potsdam founded in 1874. The latter was the world’s first observatory to emphasize explicitly the research area of astrophysics. The AIP has been a member of the Leibniz Association since 1992.
